Auditions

Louisville Chorus · Kentucky’s longest continuously performing chorus, Louisville, Kentucky.

Singers of every background are welcome to audition for the Louisville Chorus, Kentucky’s longest continuously performing choral organization. We audition soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices on Tuesday evenings throughout the season, alongside occasional larger group audition dates, and applications are accepted at any time.

Singing with the chorus asks for one night a week. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 PM, with rare additional rehearsals as a concert approaches. You do not have to read music to sing with the main chorus: the sight-reading exercise applies only to singers being considered for the Fleur de Lis Singers, our chamber ensemble. In return you sing eleven concerts a season in cathedrals, concert halls, and community stages across Louisville and southern Indiana, with an organization that has sung in this city continuously since 1939. Singers who want to go further can audition for the Fleur de Lis Singers, which performs at weddings, galas, and civic events across the city.

An audition has three parts. First a vocalization, where we guide you through simple exercises to hear your range, timbre, and musicality, with nothing to prepare. Then one song of your choice: memorization is not required, a classical piece is suggested but any genre is welcome, and you should bring two extra copies of your score, printed two-sided and hole-punched, for the music director and the pianist. Third, a brief sight-reading exercise, which applies only to singers being considered for the Fleur de Lis Singers, our chamber ensemble. It is not required to join the main chorus.

The process runs in four steps. You complete the application form and tell us a little about your singing. Our Executive Director reaches out to schedule your visit. You join a Tuesday evening rehearsal from 7 to 9 PM to feel the room. You audition afterward, with the Executive Director and section leaders present.

The Louisville Chorus rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 PM, with rare additional rehearsals as a concert approaches. To arrange an audition, submit the application on this page, email info@louisvillechorus.org, or call 502-324-5233.
